A Huge Thank You
VBS was a rousing success! Thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who worked very hard and with great hearts. Laura Key worked as the extraordinary leader who makes all things with kids happen at CCC. Dawn Aguilera also provided special leadership with VBS. You gals rock! The music, skits, food, safety team, sign-in crew, and dedicated group of teachers and helpers made VBS a fun and meaningful event. The long hours and supreme dedication are well worth it when you see the happy faces and excitement on the face of all those kids. Jesus was lifted up in a thousand ways!!! Thank you

Read the Bible in a Year
How about we read through the Bible this year? What a great way to share in your small group! Check out these plans.
MInistry with Steve Williams
Here is the website for Crossway Ministry, the ministry of Steve Williams. This ministry will be the target of our Advent Giving for 2013. We are asking each and every family to prayerfully consider spending less this Christmas. As a family ask the Lord what He would want you as a family to hold back in spending and then use that amount to give to Crossway Ministry. You can give directly to CCC and designate your gift for Crossway.
We will have one service on Sunday, September 15 at 9:30 AM. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a wonderful meal and a worship concert led by the CCC worship band and Nate Sallie. Cost is $5.00 per person or $20 max per family to cover the cost of the food.
What a great crew that heads up our evening VBS starting June 24. Be sure to sign up to help or have your kids be a part.
Taking It Seriously
Check out this article. Don't know of many who would take this approach, but I appreciate the serious attitude toward discipleship.
The newest member of the CCC worship team, Nate Sallie will be interviewed this Sunday. Nate is a recording artist and songwriter with Curb Records and will be using his gifts to encourage and train the various CCC worship teams.
What Your MBA Did Not Teach You
New series starts this Sunday from Ecclesiastes 5:8-20
The Nailing and Easter
This Good Friday we are going to have our annual time called The Nailing. It will be an awesome time of music and examination and celebration. Our Easter services will remain at 9:00 and 10:30. Can't wait!
Can't wait for the Christmas Eve service at Remingtons at 6:00 PM.
App for Sermons
For those who want to download or stream the CCC sermons directly to their smartphone, you can download the Posterous App and find Christ Community Church. Happy listening!
The Christmas season brings all kinds of activities and opportunities at CCC. Thank you to all who have sacrificed some gift purchases for the sake of our Advent Conspiracy. You can also give online if you wish. This Friday is the women's ornament exchange that will be at CCC this year. Our annual Christmas Dinner on December 16th is at the Knights of Columbus facility on W. Grand St. The whole family is welcome to this event at we honor those who have served at CCC. We are having a baby dedication on December 23rd. And our Christmas Eve service at Remingtons will be another wonderful opportunity to worship as a family on the holiday. The service is a great introduction to the gospel and a chance to bring a friend.
Change in Service Times
The Sunday after Thanksgiving (November 25th) CCC will have only one worship service at 9:00 AM. Children's MInistry will run concurrently.
We have been given a great privilege as citizens of the USA. Part of our Christian stewardship is managing what we have been given and using it in light of Kingdom principles. So tomorrow, make sure as a Christian, as a citizen, as a faithful steward please vote.
What a great time we had last Sunday evening at our Hallelujah Festival. So many people worked extremely hard to pull off the event. Laura Key, Dawn Aquilera, Kim Suffelette, the CCC Youth Group (Shaun Courtney) all did a great job. It was fun, moved along at a steady pace, and enjoyed by all. The Trunk or Treats were awesome. I met many people who were new to CCC. A big thanks also goes out to the folks who helped in raking the playground mulch. It is so much fun to serve with such a wonderful team.
We have a great day planned for this Sunday starting at 9:30AM. Our annual Pig Roast, inflatables for the kids, one service outside, great music, food, and baptism. Bring your own lawn chair. Cost is $5.00 person, with $20 max (per family) to offset cost of food. BTW- thank you Hyvee for preparing the food. And a big thanks goes out to the men who will arrive around midnight to prepare the little piggy.
Check out the new book by Joel Manby called Love Works. It is a wonderful model of how we can apply to the workplace some of the love principles we have talked about in our study of I John .
VBS at CCC starts on Monday. Some may think VBS is some kind of obligatory event churches have to do to keep up with other churches. It is certainly not the case with the crew of volunteers with this VBS. I would propose changing the name because the volunteers are not lazing around like they are on vacation and the event is nothing like school...at least from I remember in elementary school. VBS at CCC is more like a well-oiled circus with purpose, a party that lasts all week, and live storytelling that would rival any children's movie. The atmosphere is electric and kids love it. Check it out on any day or everyday from June 18-22 at 6:00 PM.
Great To Be Back
Our family vacation in Colorado was beautiful and fun. However, I missed being with the family at CCC. What a wonderful feeling to know that Gary Donn and Joel Butler each lead a Sunday service with aplomb. I've heard wonderful things about the extended worship time and Joel's message. Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to having a great summer. There are many things planned as we embark upon a VBS, July 4th celebration, and HFG's during the summer. We will also continue our study in I John. Looking forward to seeing everyone Sunday.
Shame Game x2
I continue to be amazed how many of us have been injured by various religious subcultures. Many of you have shared your stories with me the past weeks and I am encouraged to hear how God has given you wisdom and freedom from the shame and condemnation. Thank you for sharing how God has used your past to create a desire for the fresh and satisfying waters of abiding in Christ.
Working our way through I John has been a delight. We are currently in I John 3:19-24 and learning how to win the shame game. Shame and condemnation have been regular tools of the trade for many religious communities. The Bible speaks of a good guilt that leads to repentance and shame and condemnation that lead to debilitating thoughts and behavior. I John 3 gives us direction in how to win the war on shame.
Palm Sunday and Easter
Ask any church-going person the meaning of worship and what it is to look like and you will get a variety of answers. Ask the same people what the church is to be about and you will again get as many answers as respondents. Ask, again, the same folks who God is and, well, you get the idea. Is worship, church and God that fickle? Can we find any answers that are objective in this sea of opinion? Fickleness about God is nothing new. The events around the final week of the life of Christ make this point. In the next couple weeks we are going to explore how the Bible presents the reality of who God is in the midst of an ever-changing and volatile populace. I am looking forward to exploring with you.
Folks are encouraged to try the new Live Event on YouVersion by LifeChurch.tv for your smart phone during the services. You will be able to see the main points and scripture verses along with other information during the sermon.
I tire of the self-promotion of pastors you often see on social networks. Perhaps I am too old school. Perhaps I can't tell the difference between legitimate marketing and bragging. Perhaps I suffer from jeolousy and can't see it. However, I can't help myself to be grateful for the talent, heart, humility, teachable spirit, and Christ-centered approach of our worship leaders and teams at CCC. We are indeed a blessed faith community.
Our new worship times start February 5th at 9:00 and 10:30 AM with SS both hours. Thanks for being flexible.
I love the freedom that comes when I am authentic. No pressure to conform. No trying to please everyone. Even better is authenticity toward a worthwhile goal. Sometimes "authenticity" is an excuse for self-centeredness. I read a personal plan today of one of our missionaries and was struck by the level of honesty to look at strengths and weaknesses. His plan for transformation was brutally honest and inspiring. May 2012 bring about a new level of honest appraisal, a renewed commitment to excellence, and greater effectiveness for the Kingdom.
Signals of Entropy
Here are some of 'the signals of entropy' that Max Depree recognized in his organization and we talked about this past Sunday.
• Tendency towards superficiality.
• Growing tension exists among key people.
• No longer have time for celebration, reflection and
• Confuse heroes and celebrities
• Problem makers outnumber problem solvers.
• Leaders seek to control rather than liberate.
• Pressures of day-to-day operations push aside our
concern for vision and risk.
• Loss of gratitude
• Experience a vague, chronic sense of guilt
• People speak of customers as impositions on their
time rather than as opportunities for service.
