Shame Game
5/2/12
Working our way through I John has been a delight.  We are currently in I John 3:19-24 and learning how to win the shame game.  Shame and condemnation have been regular tools of the trade for many religious communities.  The Bible speaks of a good guilt that leads to repentance and shame and condemnation that lead to debilitating thoughts and behavior.  I John 3 gives us direction in how to win the war on shame.

Palm Sunday and Easter

3/31/12
Ask any church-going person the meaning of worship and what it is to look like and you will get a variety of answers.  Ask the same people what the church is to be about and you will again get as many answers as respondents.  Ask, again, the same folks who God is and, well, you get the idea.  Is worship, church and God that fickle?  Can we find any answers that are objective in this sea of opinion? Fickleness about God is nothing new.  The events around the final week of the life of Christ make this point.  In the next couple weeks we are going to explore how the Bible presents the reality of who God is in the midst of an ever-changing and volatile populace.  I am looking forward to exploring with you.

Grateful
2-13-12
I tire of the self-promotion of pastors you often see on social networks.   Perhaps I am too old school.  Perhaps I can't tell the difference between legitimate marketing and bragging.  Perhaps I suffer from jeolousy and can't see it.  However, I can't help myself to be grateful for the talent, heart, humility, teachable spirit, and Christ-centered approach of our worship leaders and teams at CCC.  We are indeed a blessed faith community.

New Times
1-29-12
Our new worship times start February 5th at 9:00 and 10:30 AM with SS both hours.  Thanks for being flexible.

Resolutions
1-12-12
I love the freedom that comes when I am authentic.  No pressure to conform.  No trying to please everyone.  Even better is authenticity toward a worthwhile goal.  Sometimes "authenticity" is an excuse for self-centeredness.  I read a personal plan today of one of our missionaries and was struck by the level of honesty to look at strengths and weaknesses.  His plan for transformation was brutally honest and inspiring.  May 2012 bring about a new level of honest appraisal, a renewed commitment to excellence, and greater effectiveness for the Kingdom.

Signals of Entropy
1-03-12
Here are some of 'the signals of entropy' that Max Depree recognized in his organization and we talked about this past Sunday.
• Tendency towards superficiality.
• Growing tension exists among key people.
• No longer have time for celebration, reflection and
ritual.
• Confuse heroes and celebrities
• Problem makers outnumber problem solvers.
• Leaders seek to control rather than liberate.
• Pressures of day-to-day operations push aside our
concern for vision and risk.
• Loss of gratitude
• Experience a vague, chronic sense of guilt
• People speak of customers as impositions on their
time rather than as opportunities for service.
